Because that happened…

Because my post titled That happened! seemed to please many readers, let me tell you about another time when I was definitely not at my best.

If you didn’t see my earlier post That happened!, you should check it out.  It’s a quick fun read.

So here it is!

Jonathan and I rarely go out together.

I know, that sounds sad but we have different tastes on many things so it’s easier to plan things to do separately and that way we both get to go out at different times and we don’t need to arrange for someone to be with Emily.

Once in a while, we plan a date night and we are lucky that Emily can spend the night with her Nana (Jon’s mom).

It normally ends with us taking a cab home because we drank a little too much.

On Jonathan’s birthday, we planned to go out with friends.  Knowing that I had to go get Emily early on Saturday morning to take her to cheer practice at 9am, I was reasonable and only had a couple of drinks over the many hours we were out.

On Saturday morning, I got up on time.

I got dressed, packed Emily’s cheer bag and left the house.

I mapped the road in my head so I could treat myself to a decadent Starbucks Caramel Macchiato on the way to pick Emily up.

After getting my coffee, I got to the street light and had a feeling I was supposed to turn right than got to my senses and went left.

I got back on the highway and took the appropriate exit to go to …

THE CHEER GYM!!!

Yes, on the way to pick Emily up to get her to her cheer practice, I forgot to pick her up!

I was almost at the gym when I realized she wasn’t with me!  Than it hit me… that’s why I was supposed to turn right at the light!

I turned around and went to get her.

Emily thought it was really funny that I went to the gym without her.

Am I the only one doing things like that?

Cri du Chat Awareness Week – May 1 to 7, 2016 (Day 7)

Here we are, May 7th

Last day of Cri du Chat Awareness week

I hope you’ve learned some things over the past week

To celebrate Cri du Chat Awareness Week, let me introduce you to our Cri du Chat Family.

Like any good family picture, some members are missing but this is a good representation of our extended family!

Hello from New Zealand, UK, Iceland, Costa Rica, US and Canada

Awareness day 7

Of all the things I have shared with you this week, I hope you will remember that Cri du Chat is a spectrum, while some of our loved ones can walk or talk, other are in wheelchair or non-verbal.

This is a wide spectrum and all of our loved ones have potential.

To be non-verbal doesn’t mean no communication.Β  It means other type of communication.Β  It is amazing what our loved ones will do to achieve some sort of communication.Β  I remember understanding Emily when the speech pathologist was convince she had no words.Β  She had words, they were just not the words the pathologist wanted to hear.

Emily, like all the others, brings beauty, joy and love everywhere she goes.Β  She also, like many others, have granted us many sleepless nights.

Dreams and hopes are crushed at first but we move forward and work to give our kids or loved ones the best life we can.Β  We enroll them in therapy and learn along the way so we can help them reach their own potential.

It’s a journey!

None of our loved ones with Cri du Chat Syndrome are the same.

They are individuals who are defining themselves and finding their place in this big world.

I have had the privilege to meet other families and I have been lucky that some have agreed to talk to me in my “Interview with” series of blog posts.

Please take a minute to let me know if you enjoyed my 7 days of awareness and which day or information you enjoyed learning!
