The best pie in the world

The best pie in the world is my mother’s cornflakes pie.

I remember as a child in ballet, when we had bake sales, my mom would make a couple of pies and the organizers would buy  them :). Her pies never made it to the sale table.

I remember our non-conventional Christmas dinner when all the relatives were peaking (sp?) in our office turned into a cold room just to see if mom made her pies. It took her 3 days to make enough pie for everybody but she did it.

I asked her for the recipe many years ago but mine didn’t taste right.

Over the years both my brothers and I moved out, met our spouses and have kids of our own.

Every time we visit mom and every time mom visits one of us, we ask for cornflakes pie 🙂

Mom is here for March break, spending time with her girls :).

So yesterday I asked her if she would make me pie 🙂 I bought everything she needed and voilà!

A perfect pie !

I posted the picture on Facebook and many relatives are missing their yearly dose of my mom’s cornflakes pie.

She sold her house years ago and we no longer have those big family Christmas dinner now that we have them for us and our kids instead of for mom’s generation and their kids (us).

The one thing that hasn’t changed?

The next generation is asking mom for cornflakes pies.

I wonder what Emily will ask me in 30 years. I wonder what it is that I make her today that will trigger this kind of fondness…

What is yours?
