Do you remember how I told you we were planning a California road trip for this summer?
Well….. It’s not happening.
Our poor Canadian money value has decreased so badly that our trip will cost us an extra 50%
Mid-January, I decided to change our plans and discover a new part of Canada.
We will fly to Edmonton and drive to Victoria (1,348km or 838 miles) before flying back home.
We will take 2 weeks, stay in Edmonton, Jasper, Banff, Kelowna, Vancouver and Victoria.
If you know Alberta and British Columbia… Tell me what we absolutely have to see!
If you want short updates and timely pictures of the little things that are happening in our life, please like and follow Lessons from my daughter ‘s page on Facebook.

Vancouver was a great place to be but that, I’m afraid, was long ago. I do have fond memories of Western Canada. Lake Louise and Emerald Bay are stunning. There is a grand hotel at Lake Louise that is quite famous, you may want to check it out online. There is Calgary if you are interested in the Stampede? Whistler Mountain…
When I was young I would visit my grandmother for the summer and work for an aunt and uncle traveling about From Stanley Park to Calgary. You have a wonderful experience ahead. Enjoy!
Thank you for following both blogs. Now I am off to discover what you have to say on yours? 🙂 Léa
BTW, I shall have to pass on the FB stuff as I am not on FB. 😉
Thank you. The hotel in Lake Louise is the Chateau Lake Louise. We are planning on stopping by for pictures :).
I don’t think you will be disappointed. Enjoy! 🙂
I think Emily would enjoy Butchart Gardens !
That’s on the list. I want to see a giant tree 🙂 tea at the Empress of course! West Edmonton Mall, stay at the Banff Springs, walk the ice field. Our list keeps getting longer!
I visited West Canada as a child and I loved it! The Rockies were my favorite part 🙂 I will definitely go back after I graduate university
:). I’m really excited about this trip. It took 2 minutes to convince hubby to do this and maybe an hour to get Emily to buy into the idea 🙂
A darling friend of mine, the Chief Executive Officer of Dolphin Marine Magic in Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia, Paige Sinclair, is originally from Victoria, BC….. I will one day be visiting America and Canada (July-August 2018 at the earliest)
Hi Joe. We live on the East coast so once in Victoria I believe we will have pass 4 time zones :). We are really looking forward to the trip. There is so much to see! I hope your travels take you to North American one day!
I’m planning to be in Cortland, NY during August for their annual Brockway truck show (Cortland was home to one of America’s biggest truck makers, Brockway) then I plan to head to Monticello to catch up with a friend while I am there. Then it’s off to Florida to visit Orlando (SeaWorld is amongst the things there) – then off to Clearwater to visit Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Then I’m not sure where I’ll go after that. Canada is going to be busy too – I have a few friends to catch up with… one in Nova Scotia and one in Newfoundland. Plus you folks if I manage to find the time – Alaska via the Inside Passage is the last thing on the to-do list…. I’d best better start saving because I’m up for quite a bit of money!
Wow! That’s a big trip!!! Say hi to Winter and Hope in Clearwater! Emily (and us) loved it there.
If you are traveling to Nova Scotia, we could be fairly close by. Where is your friend?
My friend lives in Truro….
That’s fairly close to us. Not quite 2 hours away!
What you have planned sounds wonderful. Sorry that the exchange rate just isn’t working for a trip to California. I remember one year when we had been hoping to travel to England but the exchange rate was horrendous. Instead we did our annual return to the upper peninsula of Michigan and waited two years. By then, the rates were much better. Hopefully you’ll have another opportunity to visit the US.
Thank you. I’m hoping the exchange rate will improve a bit within 2 or 3 years. It’s a reality we have to face and discovering the west coast should be fun.
I’ve been to Vancouver a time or two. Been 15 years since I’ve visited though.
I’m really excited to see the Rockies and having afternoon tea at the Empress in Victoria. It should be a great vacation.
Vancouver is one beautiful city! Enjoy. 😃
